Another great breakfast started the day,

and then Mike drove us several hours to put us back on our route just west of Dubuque, Iowa, in Cascade. While in the car, we passed through a violent thundershower, but by the time we arrived, we found the weather in Iowa to be beautiful.

Many thanks to Mike and Anne for an enjoyable time and to Mike for the transportation. We really appreciate your going out of your way to help us.
We commenced biking around 1:30 and found that the wind was right in our face

as we traveled south toward Muscatine, Iowa on the banks of the Mississippi River. Tim found the terrain more hilly than he expected, and this combined with the wind and late start resulted in a 60-mile ride, which was short of our intended destination. Headlamps came in handy at the end of the ride.
We met an individual named Jim (from Nashville) headed in the other direction. He was biking a coast-to-coast ride by himself.

Noteworthy were the number of mechanical issues that he has faced, reminding Debbie and I just how blessed we have been with our experience thus far.
We passed through some beautiful scenery.

There were some huge corn fields blanketing the rolling hills. Check out the accompanying photos.
