Well, navigating out of Portland was more of a challenge than we anticipated. We left after the 11am checkout because Tim was getting our blogging site set up and getting WiFi to work in the hotel rooms has been a little tricky. Once we made it out of Portland we were amazed at the beauty of the Historic Columbia River Highway. A long climb culminated in a spectacular view of the Columbia River.
As you can see from the accompanying photo, this particular spot, referred to as the Portland Women’s Forum, attracted various artists. In the picture, you will notice a prominent building structure in the line of sight of the River. This structure was located on the road down and was a beautiful lookout for sightseers.
The road then spiraled around this structure and corkscrewed all the way down a long stretch of scenic road marked by waterfalls. Pictured here is Multnomah Falls. Notice the footbridge that allows spectators a bird’s eye view of the falls. These falls were the most impressive of about 5 major falls that we saw on our descent. We stopped for the night at Cascade Locks, where we walked the bridge to Washington.
Oh, how beautiful is God's creation. What an amazing trip to be able to take. Our prayers are with you and hope to talk soon.

ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful getting all those updates on your travels. I'm still waiting to hear how "setting up the tent" went. I know you are taking a lot of pics, the one of the waterfall is lovely, keep them coming. It's been HOT here. Love, Mom
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you are off to a wonderful start! Jay
ReplyDeleteWOW...what a beautiful falls, but not sure that I would manage to walk across that bridge. It looks like you are beginning the climb up the mountains. So how many miles did you make it this day? love, kathy & tom
ReplyDeleteTim -- just got the link to your blog. Looking forward to reading about your trip. Be safe!
ReplyDeleteYes! I want to know how the tent set up is going too! The "prominent building structure in the line of sight of the River" that you mentioned is The Vista House at Crown Point. Here is some more information about it, spectacular! I love the Gorge. http://vistahouse.com/history/the-vista-house-story/ and http://www.wildnatureimages.com/Crown%20Point%20State%20Park%201.htm. Boy do I miss all that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories. I made this same trip in June/July 2002. I have a picture of Multnomah Falls hanging prominently in my house along with a collage of others from along the way. The Vista House was one of the early highlights, and the "corkscrew road" was covered in moss and was dangerously slippery the day we rode down that hill - very little sun ever reaches the pavement. We were going much too fast (not 41 mph!), so be careful.
