We aimed for 7am this morning. We didn’t really know what we meant by that…would we hit the road at 7am or start loading the car to go to Seaside,OR? Well, we got out of bed at 7am, had a delicious breakfast with Karen and Jim and, by the time we were all organized, headed out to Seaside around 10am, arriving around 11:30. I dipped my toes into the Pacific Ocean and we said a tearful goodbye to Jim, who is pictured in one of the photos with me (Debbie). He and Karen were so generous with their time and all their efforts to get us started on this momentous expedition.
Highlights of our first day of riding:
We rode 47 miles.
We climbed over 2,000 feet of elevation much to our surprise!
One of the first roads out of Seaside was quite a climb!! Guess we are not in Kansas- nor are we in cross country- 3,500 more miles- to- go- shape (yet)!
We went to a restaurant called the Berry Patch in Westport OR and the hostess who sat us was a standard poodle named Troll- along with his owner. Our 20-year-old waitress was friendly but seemed in need of some guidance. She was the first person on our trip who we shared with about the Hopeline. That left us both encouraged. You can find more information about the Hopeline on our separate page linked to the right.
