Bishop Bike Adventure Day 36 August 5, 2010

Today was a day of rest for the Bishop biking duo, and Tim took this very seriously, rolling out of the sack at about 11:00. Debbie took advantage of that time by taking a canoe ride on the lake with Uncle Chuck, and trying a solo run across the lake in a kayak. Too bad she couldn’t have used her now stronger legs to propel the oar!

Chuck and Melinda then took us to Red Wing, where Chuck’s daughter Jennifer lives with her husband Christian. Christian was out of town on a biking adventure of his own, driving his motorcycle out west. On the way down, we crossed the St. Croix River into Wisconsin, took in a Dairy Queen, and then crossed the Mississippi River back into Minnesota before landing in Red Wing. While on the Wisconsin side, we noticed a sign with a familiar town name on it. We also noted that the width of the Mississippi has expanded since our last crossing!

Our Jamaican waitress this evening at the Harbor Bar was so impressed by our adventure that she paid for our “pop.” We had a nice meal adjacent to the Mississippi across the bridge in Wisconsin.

Thanks to Chuck and Melinda for the accommodation, meals, and transportation. The transportation knocks a day off the required travel back east, which should help our efforts to get Debbie back to school in time. And thanks to Jennifer for the accommodations in Red Wing. It was a good chance for Debbie to reconnect with family and for Tim to get to know them better.
