Bishop Bike Adventure Day 45 August 14, 2010

Aided by a late afternoon wind from the west and a return to flat terrain, we had a good day of riding today, although we anticipated logging more mileage. We were unable to locate accommodations east of Monroeville given what light that we had left to ride in. The eastern sky also had some rain clouds. Given that it is Saturday, we will hit church here tomorrow and likely venture on, saving a rest day for later.

We are seeing more trees now, although farming still seems to dominate the economy. We are also seeing more housing developments with nice ranch style houses amongst the farmland, as you can see here. Of course being in Indiana Hoosier country, many of these homes come fully equipped with basketball goals.

Tonight we find ourselves at the Monroeville Community Pavilion in Monroeville, IN. This facility has been used by cross country bikers since the 70’s free of charge. They offer kitchen facilities, showers, and a washer and dryer. We were told that our only requirements were to sign the guest book and to leave the facility in the same condition in which we found it. They like bikers.

While being introduced to this facility, we met an individual who is producing a documentary video on coast-to-coast bicycle touring. He was reviewing the records and gleaning information from the locals.

  1. Hey Tim and Deb, What a great community attitude. They could give valuable lessons all across this great country of ours. Looks like Ohio coming right up. You guys are just flying.
    Good Traveling, Jim

  2. I can't find Monroeville on my map, with that kind of hospitality it should stand out in huge letters! That is a beautiful home with just the right amount of lawn!! Yeah, for a riding mower! Keep on "trucking", and the pictures are a great addition. Love and xxx's, Mom

  3. Looks like you had a Veteran at the community center - honored by the US Flag on the mantle of the brick "fireplace". Maybe it was from a WWII veteran who was pretty happy about August 14, 1944 Vj Day -- victory over Japan! Hope those nasty thunderstorms are staying away! Good Travels!
